Interventional Radiology

Interventional radiology—sometimes referred to as IR or VIR for vascular and interventional radiology—is an independent medical specialty. Our surgeons use minimally invasive image-guided procedures to diagnose and treat diseases. In other words, they treat conditions through the skin for situations that might otherwise require surgery.

Bingham Memorial Hospital has a multidisciplinary group of healthcare professionals who provide comprehensive specialty care services to patients with all forms of major vascular disorders. These include: Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) and Deep Venous Thrombosis (DVT).

What is Vein Disease?

Vein disease is not a cosmetic problem. Varicose veins are only one of the many ways that vein disease manifests itself. All forms of vein disease can indicate a serious health issue. The treatment of abnormal veins is for the overall improvement of health and quality of life.

Those who suffer from vein disease may experience the inability to perform everyday tasks due to pain or discomfort. The following are symptoms of vein disease:

  • Aching legs
  • Brown discoloration
  • Burning legs
  • Flaking skin
  • Healing ulcer with white scar
  • Heavy and/or tired legs
  • Itching legs
  • Leg cramps
  • Restless legs
  • Skin thickening/hard skin
  • Spider veins
  • Swelling legs
  • Ulcer
  • Varicose veins

Why Choose Bingham’s Interventional Radiologists?

The treatment of vein disease begins with a visit to one of our interventional radiology specialists. From there, the patient will receive an ultrasound of the affected area to further assess the veins. A plan of treatment is then discussed between our specialist and the patient.

Treatment options are minimally invasive, in-office, and outpatient procedures. Our team of doctors uses minimally invasive image-guided procedures—using only a tiny incision and small needle—to diagnose and treat patients in order to minimize risk to the patient and improve health outcomes. After treatment, patients are able to resume normal activities almost immediately.

With varying forms of vein disease affecting people from their 20s to their 80s, Bingham Memorial Hospital is pleased to introduce you to our respected team of vascular and interventional radiologists.
