Gastroenterology

Bingham Healthcare’s gastroenterologists focus on the digestive system and related disorders.

The digestive system is comprised of areas of the body ranging from the mouth and esophagus down to the intestines, stomach, liver, pancreas (including anorectal disorders), gallbladder, spleen, appendix and colon. Gastroenterologists are highly trained in diagnosing and treating gastrointestinal bleeding, cancers, colon polyps, acid reflux disease, ulcers, and other digestive system disorders. They provide important tests such as a colonoscopies, fecal occult blood testing, and endoscopies.

In addition, gastroenterologists diagnose and treat heartburn from GERD, abdominal pain, persistent nausea and vomiting, bowel habit disorders, peptic ulcer disease, swallowing disorders, inflammatory bowel diseases, irritable bowel syndrome, and hemorrhoidal disease.

Gastroenterologists also provide some of the following screenings:

  • Barrett’s esophagus (pre-esophageal cancer disorder)
  • Colon cancer screenings (e.g., colonoscopies and diagnostic colonoscopies)
  • Helicobacter pylori infection and its complications of peptic ulcer disease
  • Intestinal metaplasia (pre-stomach cancer disorder)
  • Stomach cancers, if seen in the family
  • Upper endoscopies for the diagnosis and therapy of upper tract digestive disorders, such as a narrowed esophageal from acid peptic disease and eosinophilic esophagitis.
