Regional Orthopedic Surgeons Travelled to Bingham Memorial Hospital to Receive Advanced Training

Recently, orthopedic surgeons from Rexburg to Pocatello convened at Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot to receive advanced training in state-of-the-art arthroscopic shoulder procedures.

This educational partnership provided regional orthopedic surgeons with the opportunity to participate in hands-on training in Bingham Memorial’s biologic lab—a controlled scientific environment. Amongst peers, top-notch surgeons learned about the latest innovations in minimally invasive surgery for repairing complex shoulder injuries using the Shoulder Restoration System from ConMed Linvatec.

“We are always on the lookout for cutting-edge technology to enhance the expertise of our orthopedic surgeons,” says Dave Lowry, Bingham Memorial’s Director of Surgical Services. “We often hold trainings with the goal of providing surgeons with the latest solutions that will ultimately help their patients find relief from pain and discomfort, so they can get back to doing what they couldn’t do before surgery.”

Dr. Kenneth Newhouse, an orthopedic surgeon with Bingham Memorial’s Orthopedic Institute, was the first surgeon in eastern Idaho to be trained on this new technology.

“I am committed to finding better ways to improve patient outcomes,” says Dr. Newhouse. “The advanced shoulder training was important to stay up-to-date on the latest technology and determine if this new device will provide a better way of repairing complex shoulder injuries. This lab will help me return patients back to their sports, jobs, and lives as quickly as possible.”

Manufacturing companies through their research and development teams made a significant investment to bring this technology to eastern Idaho and Bingham Memorial Hospital. “Without biologic labs like Bingham Memorial’s and our willingness to collaborate, they wouldn’t be able to see their technology being used in real-time, and wouldn’t be able to receive tangible feedback from surgeons,” says Dave Lowry. “We are always pleased to be an integral part of moving technology forward that, at the end of the day, will greatly benefit the citizens of eastern Idaho.”
