BMH Gives Two Prestigious Employee Awards

BLACKFOOT, Idaho – December 10, 2018 – Bingham Memorial Hospital (BMH) is pleased to announce that Michelle Sanders has been named Employee of the Year for 2018, and Brandon Shortman received the prestigious 2018 Servant’s Heart of the Year award.

Michelle is a biller with BMH’s patient financial services team and has been a full-time employee at BMH since 2008. Brandon has been employed at BMH for more than 13 years as a registered nurse.

All Bingham Memorial employees had the opportunity to nominate someone for Employee of the Year. This year, Michelle’s peers chose her because they greatly respect her and wanted to recognize the extraordinary contributions she made throughout 2018. She is an extraordinary employee who is loyal, dedicated, and a true role model to her colleagues. She is a great leader, genuinely kind, has a caring attitude, and always goes above and beyond to help others.

“Michelle exemplifies an employee that everyone would love to work with,” says co-worker, Alycia Fessler. “She is always willing to help anyone even when she isn’t asked to do so. She is so knowledgeable and approachable that when management is out of the office or busy, she is the first person I go to with questions or to get another opinion on a claim/work situation. Every day she performs tasks that are not even under her job title to help someone else in our office. She will do everything she can to try to fix a problem or make a change on a system that helps her team and makes work a little easier.”

“Congratulations on being nominated by your peers for exemplifying the values and culture of Bingham Memorial and for being such a positive influence within your department,” says Jake Erickson, CEO at BMH. “And, thank you for embodying our mission and vision statements and core values and for creating a lasting example for our employees. We are so proud to have you as part of the Bingham Family.”

In addition, BMH honors three Bingham Memorial team members each month with the Servant’s Heart award. This is given to employees, physicians, and volunteers who are nominated by their peers for going above and beyond to deliver not only caring and compassionate care—but extraordinary care—that positively impacts our patients. Every year BMH recognizes one employee who truly exemplifies what it means to have a Servant’s Heart. This year, the award was presented to Brandon Shortman, registered nurse, in honor of his dedication to our patients and employees.

Patients always say what an outstanding and compassionate nurse Brandon is, and his patients frequently say how well he listens, comforts, and provides great care. “Brandon brings a tremendous amount of joy and light to our patients and employees on a daily basis,” says Mr. Erickson. “His genuine optimism, generosity, and thoughtfulness are greatly appreciated. He truly an extraordinary human being whose work and countless acts of kindness are fundamental in shaping the culture of compassionate and loving care at Bingham Memorial.”
